Privacy Policy
Gout Coach is built to keep your health data private. Your logs live on your device. We run no servers and we never see, sell, or share your data. The only time information leaves your phone is (1) when you take a photo to scan a meal — that image is sent to Google's AI to identify the food — and (2) if you turn on Backup & Sync, which copies your data to your own iCloud or Google Drive. There are no accounts and no advertising or tracking.
1. Who we are
Gout Coach ("we", "us") is an independent app. This policy covers the Gout Coach iOS and Android apps.
2. What we collect and where it lives
- Health & log data you enter (flares, pain, joints, water, diet, uric acid readings, height/weight, reminder time, onboarding answers): stored only on your device using the operating system's local storage. We do not transmit it to us — we have no servers and no database.
- No account / no identifiers: we do not require sign-up, and we do not collect your name (beyond an optional first name you type for personalization, stored locally), email, phone number, advertising ID, or precise location.
3. When data leaves your device
- Meal photo scanning (only when you tap "Scan a meal"): the photo you capture or choose is sent to Google's Gemini API (via Firebase AI Logic) to identify the foods in it. The image is processed to return a result and is not used by us for any other purpose. If you never use the scan feature, no photo is ever sent.
- App integrity (Firebase App Check): to prevent abuse of the AI feature, the app sends a device-attestation token (Apple DeviceCheck on iOS / Play Integrity on Android) with scan requests. This verifies the request comes from the genuine app; it does not identify you.
- Purchases (RevenueCat): if you subscribe to Premium, our payments provider RevenueCat processes the purchase receipt and a random app-generated user ID to manage your subscription entitlement. Payment itself is handled by Apple or Google — we never receive your card details.
- Backup & Sync (only if you turn it on — Premium): your data snapshot is copied to your own iCloud (Apple Key-Value Store) or your own Google Drive app-data folder. It stays in your personal cloud account; we have no access to it and store nothing ourselves.
4. What we do NOT do
- We do not sell or rent your data. Ever.
- We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs that track you.
- We do not build advertising profiles or share data with data brokers.
5. Medical disclaimer
Gout Coach is for education and self-tracking only. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and is not a substitute for your doctor. Always consult a qualified professional about your gout and before changing medication. Not affiliated with the American College of Rheumatology or the National Kidney Foundation.
6. Children
Gout Coach is intended for adults (gout primarily affects adults) and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
7. Your choices & rights
- Delete your data: because data is stored locally, deleting the app removes all of it from your device. If Backup & Sync was on, remove the app's data from your iCloud/Drive in those services' settings.
- Stop photo scanning: simply don't use the scan feature; you can use the free food search and manual logging without sending anything off-device.
- Depending on your region (e.g. GDPR/CCPA), you may have rights to access or delete personal data. Since we hold no personal data on any server, exercising these is done on-device as above; contact us with any questions.
8. Data retention
We retain nothing on our side. Your data persists on your device (and your own cloud, if you enabled sync) until you delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; we'll change the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, surface a notice in the app.
